I am incredibly excited and pleased to be joining all of you as part of the rapidly growing Magento Community in my new role as Vice President, Business Development. As I get started, I wanted to share a few thoughts on what you can expect from Magento Business Development in 2011, as well as a bit of information on my background.
My primary goal for Business Development at Magento is very simply to do whatever it takes to support the company mission of “enabling the ecommerce ecosystem”. At a high level, this includes both enhancing existing strategic alliances and initiating new ones - to offer new and better opportunities for partners, and to improve the overall Magento experience for our customers though a broader and more integrated set of solutions. More tactically, you will see both some short-term and longer-term improvements in the way we work with ISV’s, Hosting Partners, Developers, and other core elements of our ecosystem.
Over the next 30 days, I plan to speak with as many of you as possible, to gather feedback on what is important and how you would like to see those items addressed. I expect to have a preliminary program in place by the end of those 30 days (if not sooner), which will cover the first half of 2011. I will then be working with a cross-functional Magento team on a more much exciting and comprehensive partnering program for our ecosystem, which you can expect to see around the mid-point of the year.
Having worked in open source software over the past seven years, across a variety of Business Development, Sales, and Channels roles, I hope to be able to quickly add my own contribution to the incredible momentum at Magento. Before this move, I spent the last four years at Alfresco Software, managing our Channels, Sales, and Sales Operations in the Americas region. Before joining Alfresco, I was President of Virtuas Open Source Solutions, a consulting firm focused on Open Source technologies – and prior to that was Manager of the Open Source Middleware initiative within the Consulting & Integration group at Hewlett-Packard. I have a Bachelor of Science, Economics from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Business Administration from the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley.
Why did I join Magento? To be part of this amazing community and the world-class leadership team at the company. And to be part of a special group of people that have brought the world’s leading ecommerce platform to the market, with over $25 billion in transactions, 80,000+ merchants, over 3,000 extensions, and 2 million+ downloads.
I hope to see many of you at Imagine in a few weeks! In the meantime, I can be reached at if you would like to share some thoughts with me.
